While TV show has been a pretty big success, it’s been quite some time since the last mainline game., codenamed Polaris, is still far off, though developer CD Projekt Red expressed a desire to “push the boundaries” with the upcoming RPG.
CD Projekt Red discussed the upcoming game during its latest investor call on Tuesday. Near the end of the conference, a caller asked how similar the next game would be to The Witcher 3. “The next Witcher game is definitely still a role-playing game,” said CEO Michal Nowakowski. “However, there will be some changes versus The Witcher 3. We don’t want to be stuck in the same spot. We always want to push the boundaries and discover new ways of telling the story. We want to move in the next direction; you may expect new things in the next Witcher game.”
Unfortunately, Nowakowski did not elaborate on what these “new things” will be. However, earlier in the call, he confirmed that CDPR has 407 developers working on Polaris. An additional 56 personnel are working on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Orion. Smaller teams are also working on the new IP Hayder and assisting developer Molasses Flood on the Witcher spinoff codenamed Sirius.
It also appears that CD Projekt is also being a bit more cautious with marketing. The studio was unwilling to say when fans will see the first trailer for The Witcher 4. However, there won’t be a repeat of what happened with Cyberpunk 2077’s first trailer releasing eight years before the game.
