Familiar faces took the top two spots on the European software sales chart in May.
EA Sports FC 24 charted at No.1, followed by Grand Theft Auto 5 and F1 2024.
While EA’s racing game was the highest new entry on the chart, its launch sales were down 35% compared to last year’s F1 game.
That’s according to GSD data published by GamesIndustry.biz, which covers physical game sales from major markets and digital sales from most leading publishers, excluding Nintendo and 505 Games.
Total software sales in May were down almost 17% compared to a year earlier, while console unit sales declined 40% year-over-year.
Some of these declines can be explained by last year’s blockbuster release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which sold more copies in May 2023 than the entire top 10 managed last month.
The game’s release was also accompanied by the launch of a popular Zelda edition of the Switch OLED.
Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut charted at No.4 last month following the release of the PC version.
And Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door debuted at No.5, a feat achieved based on physical sales alone given Nintendo doesn’t share digital data.
