Gun Media has had a successful start with its multiplayer take on Tobe Hooper’s, with high player counts, good reviews, and a general swell of positivity surrounding it.
It’s something of a redemption story after the unfortunate licensing situation with Friday the 13th The Game, one it’s not looking to repeat as it has a great understanding with the rights holder. But as is typical with licensing, there are Texas Chain Saw things we won’t get in the game in the future.
Fans of the game have already pondered the idea of skins, characters, and maps from other movies in the series being featured in future DLC, but back in June, Gun’s Wes Keltner confirmed this is a strictly 1974 show.
Keltner wrote on social media back on June 2, 2023 that they only held rights to the Tobe Hooper original.
”Friendly reminder. We have the interactive rights to the 1974 film. We can’t put characters or locations in from other TX films because we don’t have those rights.
Demanding we add them is not how Hollywood works. Licensing in general is usually a total mess.”
After the hullabaloo that surrounded who owned what about the Friday the 13th license killed off the game version’s future, it’s understandable Gun is keeping things simple with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It doesn’t mean we won’t see new stuff in the game, just not any Netflix requel locations or Renée Zellweger skins.
You can play The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game on PC, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
