Start flexing those puzzle-solving muscles, because The Talos Principle II has a release date. Devolver Digital and Croteam announced plans to bring the next entry to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on November 2, 2023. You can see some of this brain-bending at work in the new trailer, which shows more first-person puzzling.
It’s been nearly a decade since the debut of the first The Talos Principle game, which launched in 2014. It’s a brilliant puzzler that can be simultaneously empowering and infuriating. That’s a succinct way of saying it succeeded in a lot of the stumping it set out to do in the first place. The sequel promises new puzzle mechanics, secrets, and “the biggest, weirdest world Croteam has ever built.” That in and of itself should be enough of a hook for most.
That isn’t to say there won’t be plenty of returning puzzle styles for those who played the first game. It should be interesting to see how Croteam turns those familiar quandaries on their head this time. In addition to a very specific type of thinkin’ cap, the devs want to get you stroking your philosopher’s chin with more existential pontifications. The Talos Principle II aims for a “richer storyline” with questions about humanity, the cosmos, and whatever else will have you saying, “Dude. Whoa.”
The Talos Principle II is priced at $29.99, and you can get 10 percent off with a pre-order via Steam and Epic Games Store. There’s an even bigger discount on the original for a limited time. From now until October 3, you can grab The Talos Principle and the Road to Gehenna DLC for 90 percent off on Steam.
