Sony’s new, slimmer PlayStation 5 model requires a separate $30 / £25 / Є30 stand for the console to safely stand upright.
Sony Interactive Entertainment officially announced the new PS5 model, which will launch in November in standard and Digital editions, earlier on Tuesday.
Unlike the original PlayStation 5 model, which includes a stand which works in horizontal and vertical positions, a new Vertical Stand will be required for the slimmer model.
The new Vertical Stand will be sold separately at 29.99 USD | 29.99 EURO | 24.99 GBP | 3,980 JPY, Sony said.
However, Sony said a “horizontal stand” will be included with the new PS5 model. And you can see what it looks like – a ‘kick stand’-style attachment – via the official image below:
According to Sony, the new PS5 console has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and in weight by 18% and 24% respectively compared to the current model.
Launching this November in the US before rolling out elsewhere over the following months, the new model will come with 1TB storage for both editions.
Unlike previous models, those who purchase the PS5 Digital Edition will be able to add a Blu-ray disc drive later, as it will also be sold separately for $79.99 / €119.99 / £99.99.
