The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features a lot of different armor pieces, providing Link with the protection he needs to face the many enemies on his path. While some of the gear you will find during your adventure, or purchase in shops, is decent enough, it won't reach its full potential until you upgrade it. And the only way to do so is by using the services offered by the Great Fairies.
Unlike in Breath of the Wild, finding the Great Fairies in Tears of the Kingdom isn't particularly difficult, as they can be found near stables and other points of interest. Getting them out of their flower buds, however, is another matter entirely. For some reason, they have secluded themselves from the rest of the world, and it is up to Link to make them come out.
Before you can start upgrading your armor in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you will first need to complete one of the game's Side Adventures, the Serenade to a Great Fairy quest. To start it, you will first need to head to the abandoned stable near Rito Village in the northwestern part of the map and become one of the Lucky Glover Gazette reporters.
After this is done, head to the Woodland Stable to the northeast of Lookout Landing and speak with the musicians outside the stable. They will tell Link they wanted to perform for the Great Fairy Tera, but an accident has ruined their cart. Pick the two wheels nearby and use Ultrahand to attach them to the cart, and equip your horse with the Towing Harness so that you can have your horse tow the cart. This item can be obtained as a reward for getting three Pony Points, which are obtained by registering horses at stables or visiting new ones.
