Willow co-showrunner Jonathan Kasdan has issued a statement regarding the of the original series, alongside several other shows and movies.
Over Twitter, Kasdan said that though he’d been quiet on the news of Willow being removed, he’s “kinda into it.” The co-showrunner went on to explain that he grew up when Disney movies were periodically re-released and not available to own. According to Kasdan, this “made them… more special.”
In a follow-up tweet, he says that though he worries about “many things,” he’s not worried about Willow never being available again, whether through Disney+ or another service. Finally, Kasdan notes that he’s grateful for all the love and enthusiasm.
… but NONE of them are that <a href=«https://twitter.com/hashtag/Willow?src=hash&ref_src=» https:>#Willow
will never be available again, either on <a href=«https://twitter.com/DisneyPlus?ref_src=» https:>@DisneyPlus or perhaps… someplace else, & ya never know where that could lead… stranger things have happened. So grateful for all the love and enthusiasm; it's truly what keeps these worlds alive.
Willow debuted on Disney+ in November 2022 and served as a continuation of the story that began in Ron Howard’s 1988 movie of the same name. The series’ showrunners were Wendy Mericle and Jonathan Kasdan while Ron Howard served as executive producer. The series is being pulled just under six months after debuting alongside many other movies and series as a cost-cutting measure, as was first announced earlier this month on an earnings call.
