Bandai Namco confirmed that Tekken 8 will release on 26th January for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
There’s been a steady string of trailers for Tekken 8 over the last few months, mostly focussed on character reveals and delving into their specific move sets and fighting skills. We saw a little bit of Devil Jin, Kazuya, Nina Williams, Jack-8, Marshall Law, King, Paul Phoenix, Lars Alexandersson, Leroy Smith and Asuka Kazma, Bryan Fury and more.
These character reveals have come off the back of a lengthy Tekken 8 gameplay deep dive that explored new gameplay mechanics including a new heat system, modified Rage Art system that uses a common input – Rage Drive from Tekken 7 has been removed – and a recover gauge that has some common ground with the Tekken Tag Tournament games.
Looking back on the last game, Tekken 7, we awarded it a mighty 9/10 in out review, saying: “Tekken 7 is a phenomenal fighting game experience and one I’d highly recommend. It’s by no means perfect, as the game is not without a few technical issues online, some long loading times, and minor continuity errors, yet as far as most people will be concerned, it delivers a stunning, up-to-date fighting game experience from one of the masters of arcade fighting games. A solid return to form.”
Can the successor fill those boots? It’s certainly doing plenty to get fighting game fans excited, and we look forward to seeing Tekken 8 release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on 26th January.
