The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom had a tough act to follow with Breath of the Wild. But now, as fans make their way through the behemoth sequel, it's safe to say that it's stuck the landing, competing with not only its predecessor, but also giving other popular Switch games a run for their money.
In just a matter of days, Tears of the Kingdom has risen to become the fourth best-reviewed game on Nintendo Switch. This places it above other hits like Metroid Prime Remastered, Persona 5 Royal, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Animal Crossing New Horizons. It's not quite enough to dethrone Breath of the Wild just yet, but it's a great start.

This data comes from Metacritic, which lists the overall critical reception of every single Switch release. Here, we can see that Tears of the Kingdom sits in between The House in Fata Morgana and the Switch releases of Portal and Portal 2.
Unsurprisingly, competition for the top spot is fierce. Both Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey have scores of 97/100, the highest of any other games on the platform. However, this is just one point ahead of Tears of the Kingdom and Portal, giving the Zelda sequel a fighting chance as post-release reviews come through.
That being said, Metacritic isn't the only review aggregator out there. As we reported earlier in the week, Tears of the Kingdom actually managed to nab the spot for the highest-rated game on OpenCritic ever. At 97/100, it's tied with Super Mario Odyssey for the highest score on the site, just inching ahead of Breath of the Wild, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Elden Ring.
