A few hours ago, Private Division and Wētā Workshop finally shared the first trailer and gameplay details for Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings game.
The game was originally announced in August 2022, although we first learned of its name and basic overview over a year later. It's a single player cozy Hobbit life simulation game taking place in the idyllic town of Bywater. After creating and personalizing their own Hobbit, players will be tasked with settling in and decorating a cozy Hobbit home, choosing from a range of furniture and decorations to create their unique, humble abode. While outdoors in Bywater, players will find plenty of activities, such as cooking, fishing, foraging, gardening, and more.
Examples provided by the developers of Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings game include casting your lure to catch trout from the glistening waters of Bywater Pool, foraging for wild mushrooms, and then using the gathered ingredients to bake a succulent pie. You can also explore the Shire and build relationships with the Bywater locals by helping them plant a garden, sharing one of the many daily Hobbit meals, and more. The ultimate goal appears to be throwing the greatest Bywater Festival the Shire has ever seen, which apparently allows the little town to achieve 'official village status'.
Kelly Tyson, Head of Product at Wētā Workshop, said in a statement:
We’re excited to provide players with the opportunity to fulfill their fantasy of living their own humble Hobbit life in the Shire. Tales of the Shire brings a cozy new dimension to the way fans can experience Middle-earth, with plenty of wholesome, Hobbit-centric gameplay to win over newcomers to the genre.
Michael Worosz, Chief Strategy Officer, Take-Two Interactive and Head of Private Division, added:
The team at Wētā Workshop is creating a brilliant representation of J.R.R.
