We’re just a month away from the release of Still Wakes The Deep on 18th June, and developer The Chinese Room has now revealed the full voice cast for its oil rig horror with a new story mini documentary.
With top billing as main character Cameron “Caz” McLeary goes to Alec Newman, the Glaswegian actor who will be familiar to fans of Cyberpunk 2077 as Adam Smasher. Also joining the cast is Neve McIntosh as Suze, Caz’s wife, while the rest of the cast list is as follows:
As a first person horror, a lot of emphasis will be put on Alec’s voice acting chops to carry you through the story, but the cast as a whole will get to really lean into the thick and coarse regional accents from the north of the UK, given the setting.
Set in 1975 on the Beria D oil rig off the coast of Scotland, players will have to survive as the rig is torn apart by an otherworldly horror that has been unwittingly released in the unending quest for oil. The Chinese Room is getting to return to their roots as a studio both in terms of gameplay – it’s a narrative horror, so expect “walking simulator” to be bandied about a bit – and with filling this setting and narrative concept out with touches and details to really ground the player.
Newman says in the mini documentary that “The thing was so well written, and so well-conceived, that I don’t recall having very long conversations about what Caz should sound like. With this, you can feel the writing, you can feel the characters.”
Still Wakes The Deep is out on 18th June for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC – it will also be available day one with Xbox Game Pass.
