Development on the Baldur's Gate 3 overhaul for Stardew Valley - Baldur's Village - continues, adding some new companions. The fan-made project has just revealed pixel art for Shadowheart, Lae'zel, Halsin, and Gale confirming that they'll all appear in the ambitious mod.
The update also gives us a look at the Astarion romance, as he was the first character confirmed for Baldur's Village. As per the screenshot, it looks like we'll even have the option to immediately propose to him, which I can certainly see a few fans doing.
New companions are being decided by the project's Patreon backers, so there's still room for other Baldur's Gate 3 characters to make the cut. That means we might get yet another avenue to romance Karlach, Wyll, and Minthara, as they're now the only romanceable Baldur's Gate 3 companions who aren't in the works.
It looks like a good amount of work is getting put into every companion too, with each one requiring their own Stardew Valley-esque artwork - complete with different expressions - as well as a fully written storyline with dialogue. Of course, that's not even getting into all the work it will take to create the area of Baldur's Village itself, since this is overhauling the base game rather than adding to it.
The team was previously expecting to launch Baldur's Village before August, so ahead of Baldur's Gate 3's first birthday. However, this update mentions that one of the developers has left, so it remains to be seen if this is still possible. Especially as the scope of the mod expands, adding more characters like Astarion's siblings, and Shadowhearts parents.
In the meantime, we have the Baldur's Gate 3 modding scene. Recently, we covered a popular mod that lets you hug a wide range of characters. You might not be marrying them as you can in Baldur's Village, but it's still nice.
