Amazon's games arm has opened a brand new studio in Bucharest, Romania.
Announced via a blog post, this new developer will be supporting the company's existing portfolio of studios.
The venture is being headed up by Ubisoft veteran Cristian Pana (pictured), who will be serving as managing director for the developer.
Over Pana's 20 year career, he has worked in many different parts of the French publishing giant; he started in QA in 2003 before moving up to become a co-producer at the firm. In 2014, he started a one year stint at The Crew studio Ivory Tower, before working another 12-month period in Malmo. In 2016, he joined Massive Entertainment, before moving to Ubisoft Bucharest as managing director.
“I’m thrilled to join Amazon Games at a time when the team is actively building across an exciting roadmap,” Pana said.
“I’ve built and led outstanding teams in the past and I know this area of Europe is a hot spot for some of the very best talent in gaming.”
Amazon Games VP Christoph Hartmann added: “Amazon Games is focused on developing and publishing great games, and we have an ambitious long-term roadmap in front of us. Expanding our internal development teams into Europe was a natural next step for us as we tackle our broad portfolio. Bucharest is known as one of the top emerging European cities for game development and we look forward to tapping into the rich talent pool.”
