Super Mario Bros Wonder dominated the physical software charts in Japan this week, reportedly making it the fastest-selling Mario game on Switch in the country.
According to the Japanese charts for the week ending October 22, as provided by Famitsu, Super Mario Bros Wonder sold an estimated 638,634 physical copies in its first weekend.
By comparison, Spider-Man 2 sold 77,348 copies, settling for second place in the charts.
The results are a stark contrast to the UK charts, where Spider-Man 2 “comfortably” took the number 1 slot, with Super Mario Bros Wonder in second place.
As noted by Twitter user Stealth, the first weekend sales for Super Mario Bros Wonder make it the fastest-selling Mario game on Switch in Japan, with the list looking as follows:
They also note that both New Super Mario Bros on Nintendo DS and New Super Mario Bros Wii sold more than 900,000 copies in Japan in their first week.
However, since neither game was sold digitally at launch, and since digital sales for Nintendo games aren’t immediately revealed, it’s impossible to tell how close Super Mario Bros Wonder came to its DS and Wii predecessors.
Earlier today, Nintendo claimed thatSuper Mario Bros Wonder is the fastest-selling Super Mario game ever in Europe.
“Wowie zowie! In its first three days on sale, #SuperMarioBrosWonder has become the fastest-selling Super Mario game ever in Europe,” the company wrote on social media. “A huge thanks to everyone who helped make this a wonderful launch.”
