Samsung to Use Titanium For Galaxy S24 Ultra, But Weight Reduction Would Not Match Apple’s Implementation of The Finish
Apple announced the new iPhone 15 Pro model with a unique titanium finish and a new Action Button. While the general design remains more or less the same, the new finish remains the highlight for this year. However, the iPhone 15 Pro will not be the only device rocking a titanium finish. According to a new report, Samsung is preparing to use the same titanium finish on its Galaxy S24 Ultra next year.
The titanium finish on the iPhone 15 Pro boasts a few benefits over stainless, and the same can be expected from Samsung's iteration of the build on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Titanium is more durable than stainless steel and more resistant to scratches and scuffs. Additionally, it also allows shaving off a few grams of the device. The iPhone 15 Pro is significantly lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro, weighing almost 9 percent less.
According to a report from The Elec, Samsung plans to introduce a titanium finish on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The company would see fit to offer titanium on additional models of its devices based on market response. If the market perceives the new finish as a hit, the company will provide titanium on other phones. Other than this, it remains to be seen if Samsung can make its devices lighter than Apple.
The source suggests that Samsung's use of titanium could make the devices lighter, but the difference will be marginal compared to Apple. As mentioned, the iPhone 15 Pro Max weighs 221 grams compared to 240 grams on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Furthermore, the iPhone 15 Pro weighs 187 grams compared to 206 grams of the iPhone 14 Pro.
