Starfield players on PC say they're struggling to maintain 60fps, even though they're not restricted by the same 30fps cap as those on console. While they can reach and even surpass 60fps, many fans are disappointed with how difficult this is to sustain, particularly during combat.
Many are eager to add that they're enjoying the game, but also feel that Bethesda needs to work on performance improvements for PC. They fear that this version of Starfield isn't well optimised, and aren't happy with the graphical limitations they're having to accept to ensure that the framerate doesn't dip below 60.

"The community needs to be louder about the performance issues," says Reddit user MeneT3k3l. "It might be a good game, but poor performance is what can stop a lot of people from enjoying the game fully.
"Right now I'm not seeing enough community feedback about this issue. It's running well below what should be acceptable for how the game looks."
MeneT3k3l then links to some content creators who have shared their own struggles hitting high framerates at 1080p, despite using a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti.
While the Starfield subreddit has been largely impressed with the game since its early access period kicked off yesterday, many in the replies still agree that there's room for improvement on PC. One user even says they're getting dips into the low 40s, an issue they haven't experienced with other games on their set-up.
"The truth is, the game doesn't even look good enough to excuse this level of performance," says Eterniter. "I am able to get more fps playing [Cyberpunk 2077] maxed out with ray tracing than I do base Starfield."
