Bethesda and buggy go hand-in-hand, whether it's flying horses in Skyrim or NPCs swimming in the air in Fallout 4. Starfield is no different.
As reported by Eurogamer, several players have run into an issue where their gun stops working. They aren't jammed, clogged, or broken - there are no repair hammers in space - they're bugged. Funnily enough, this isn't a new issue, as it has cropped up before in Fallout 4. Same ol' engine, same ol' glitches.

Since the bug is old and already known, so too is the fix. You have to customise your character to get the gun working again. I won't pretend to understand the inner workings of why a character customiser fixes a broken gun, but it does. On PC, you can either change your sex via console commands or open the customisation screen by typing 'showlooksmenu player 2'. For console players, there's ironically no console, so you have to visit an Enhance Clinic and spend 500 credits. You don't have to change your appearance though, you just have to open the menu.
Unfortunately, this bug was never fixed in Fallout 4 after a staggering eight years, so it's unclear if Bethesda will finally iron it out in Starfield. Granted, I have run into a version of this bug myself in Skyrim, a game that is now 12 years old. There's a chance your bow, despite being loaded with arrows, won't fire. Fixing this is a little easier, just spam the holster button until everything resets. Another bug that people reported in Skyrim was bows firing, but the arrow going limp and falling to the floor immediately. Funnily enough, changing your POV or getting naked fixes this issue... which some players report fixes the Starfield bug.
