A new Starfield comparison video was shared online, putting the 2022 demo build side by side with the retail version to highlight the differences between the two versions of the game.
The new comparison, which was put together by Cycu1, highlights how the game changed since its big 2022 showing. The exploration sequence featured in the comparison, to make an example, looks quite different, as terrain textures in the final version do not reflect the light as much as they do in the demo build, which makes for a more realistic atmosphere, while the mountain range behind the research lab looks somewhat better in the demo version. Many of the exterior visual changes are also due to different lighting, although Cycu1 was unable to recreate the same lighting conditions seen in the demo build in the retail release.
When it comes to interiors, the changes in the Starfield final build are less evident, and which version looks better is down to personal preference. Generally, the game looked more vibrant but a little less realistic at times in the demo build, thanks to better contrast and color palette and the lack of the green color filter the final version of the game features. Character models also went through some changes, though it really cannot be said they were downgraded, as some may prefer the new look of the characters over those of the demo build.
While Starfield may be a little disappointing for some, when it comes to visuals, it is a game that every role-playing game fan should play nonetheless. Once past the dull first few hours, the game becomes an incredibly engaging experience that can be difficult to put down, as I highlighted in my review.
Starfield is now available in Early Access on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox
