Selecting their digital cat to give it a pet makes the creature meow, resulting in their actual kitty responding in turn. Many have commented on the adorable moment, suggesting they've encountered similar things with their real-life dogs; dilaurdid says they've seen their cat do this a few times but this is the first chat that's been caught on camera.
While pets have been around since launched in 2016, the recent 1.6 Update significantly improved them. One of the best additions included in the patch is the ability to adopt more pets after maxing out one's friendship with their starting animal. These adorable critters can be selected and purchased from Marnie for a decent chunk of change, so one has to be certain they're ready to take care of two (or more) animals.
There's now also a point to showing one's pet extra love and affection as the 1.6 Update introduced a mechanic that allows cats and dogs to bring the farmer gifts. These treats are never anything major but it's still a fantastic feature that only furthers the connection between player and pet.
