In retro news, I’m celebrating the PC bday of Sonic CD, a port from the ill-fated Mega-CD. It started as a Sonic 1 enhancement but bloomed into a unique, Back to the Future romp, and my 16-bit brain was blown by this version’s superior 60fps, CD crisp soundtrack, anime cutscenes, and the Super Peel Out mechanic. It also debuted Amy Rose, Super Mario Kart-looking Special Stages, and the coolest villain 2D Sonic ever got—Metal Sonic. Oh, and let’s not forget its actual save system. No more leaving the PC on for days for me!
