Lucasfilm's Star Wars movie plans are a good sign for Star Wars 10. After Disney bought Lucasfilm from George Lucas, the Star Wars franchise returned to the big screen with ambitious plans. A sequel trilogy set decades after Return of the Jedi introduced new characters like Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concluded that trilogy and finished off a run where Lucasfilm had released five Star Wars movies in just as many years. However, the dwindling success of the movies coupled with the great success of The Mandalorian on Disney+ has led the studio to reconfigure its future plans.
While the future of Star Wars is quite clearly on Disney+, there is still plenty of interest in seeing more movies set in the galaxy far, far away. Lucasfilm has a few different movies currently in the works, but there has so far been no official talk of Star Wars: Episode 10. Comments from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy suggest that the road to Star Wars 10 is about to begin, though. As part of Star Wars Celebration 2022, Kennedy said in an interview that future Star Wars movies will be set after the sequel trilogy. It might not be surprising to hear Lucasfilm wants to move the franchise's timeline forward, but even that simple decision is a great sign for Star Wars 10.

Prior to Kennedy's comments about progressing the franchise's timeline beyond Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the direction of the Star Wars movie slate was unclear. The studio had confirmed movies like Rogue Squadron from Patty Jenkins and an untitled film from Thor: Love and Thunder director
