The first look at Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Disney+ series debuted during Star Wars Celebration 2022 and featured live-action versions of Star Wars Rebels characters. Originally created by Dave Filoni and George Lucas for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano has become a fan-favorite character in the galaxy far, far away. Ashley Eckstein voiced the character in various animated projects, but Dawson was cast as a live-action Ahsoka for The Mandalorian season 2. She returned briefly in The Book of Boba Fett as well. However, it was her role in The Mandalorian that set up a spinoff show.
Lucasfilm officially confirmed plans for an Ahsoka series on Disney+ in 2020, shortly after Dawson made her debut. The series comes from Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. Ahsoka began filming in May 2022 despite plot details not yet being revealed. Her role in The Mandalorian season 2 directly set up a continuation of her story from Star Wars Rebels, where she and Sabine Wren began a mission to find Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn. Natasha Liu Bordizzo has been announced to be the live-action Sabine in the series, which is also rumored to include Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker again.

After not revealing much about Ahsoka during the beginning of Star Wars Celebration 2022, the Mando+ panel from Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni brought the first look at the series. The quick Ahsoka teaser included Ahsoka Tano on a ship and the appearance of Star Wars Rebels character Hera Syndulla. It also featured the first footage of Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren as she looked at a mural from Star Wars Rebels' ending. Ezra Bridger was also featured in a mural, but a live-action
