Warning! SPOILERS for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 1.
Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 1 features a brutal moment that has often replicated itself in the Star Wars universe. From the original trilogy to the prequels and sequels, George Lucas' franchise has featured its fair share of lightsaber duels resulting in the loss of a combatant's limb. More specifically, Jedi and Sith Lords alike have had their arms and hands cut off and/or have done so to others. In Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 1, Star Wars' Third Sister Reva, a member of the Jedi-hunting Inquisitors, threatens to slice off the hands of anyone on Tatooine who refuses to give her information on a hidden Jedi's whereabouts. When a woman defies her by arguing that the Empire cannot impose its rule in the Outer Rim, Reva swiftly proceeds to slice off the woman's hand with her lightsaber, leaning into this longstanding Star Wars tradition.
Set 10 years after Order 66's elimination of nearly every Jedi and Anakin Skywalker's turn to the Dark Side, Obi-Wan Kenobi finds its titular character hiding on Tatooine as a shell of the powerful Jedi master he once was. Relentlessly pursued by the Inquisitors, Obi-Wan is forced to emerge from the shadows when Reva organizes the kidnapping of Princess Leia. The Disney+ series additionally incorporates the upbringings of the Skywalker children and Darth Vader's rise to power in the early years of the Galactic Empire.
