Obi-Wan Kenobi is already succeeding where The Book of Boba Fett failed. After the famed bounty hunter continued the post-Return of the Jedi storylines setup in The Mandalorian, the Star Wars franchise went back to the Galactic Civil War era with the premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Unlike Boba Fett, whose story is unfolding for the first time on Disney+, Obi-Wan's fate is already known by the audiences–but that does not mean that Obi-Wan Kenobi cannot ultimately offer a better viewing experience than The Book of Boba Fett.
Curiously, both The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi were originally planned as movies. Following the success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the newly formed Disney's Lucasfilm was convinced that spinoff films for legacy characters or important events of the Star Wars canon would work, and projects like a Boba Fett movie directed by James Mangold started to be discussed. However, after Solo: A Star Wars Story's failure, Lucasfilm had to rethink its spinoff strategies.

As a consequence of The Mandalorian proving that the Disney+ platform was perfect for bringing live-action Star Wars to the TV format, both projects were reshaped. The Book of Boba Fett was developed as a post-Return of the Jedi story that picks up Boba Fett's story from where The Mandalorian season 2 left, and Obi-Wan Kenobi was crafted as an event-series set 10 years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
