Stig Asmussen, the director of both Star Wars Jedi games, is leaving developer Respawn Entertainment.
As reported by Bloomberg, Asmussen is leaving Respawn and its parent company EA, with his next destination currently unknown.
“After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck,” an EA spokesperson told Bloomberg in a statement.
“Veteran Respawn leaders will be stepping up to guide the team as they continue their work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.”
Just last week, EA CEO Andrew Wilson teased unannounced projects currently in development at Respawn, calling the studio “one of the most incredible acquisitions ever done in the industry”.
“They’re an incredible team and they’ve created incredible value for us, for our shareholders, and certainly for these global communities of players across Apex and the Jedi series,” Wilson said.
“And you should imagine that there’s some other things going on at Respawn that we’re very excited about, that we’re not going to talk about but that we’re very excited about just given the quality of that group.”
Asmussen said back in February that he hoped to make a third Star Wars Jedi game.
“I always wanted to see this as a trilogy,” he told IGN at the time, speaking about the second game, Survivor. “How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?
“We had a pretty decent idea of timeframe where we wanted Survivor to take place, what the stakes were going to be, what the tone of the game was going to be, what Cal was going to be up against, and how the crew was going to factor into that. And there’s ideas of what we could do beyond that as well.”
