Star Trek: Infinite, a new game set in the iconic sci-fi franchise from developer Nimble Giant Entertainment and publisher Paradox Interactive, has been announced as part of Summer Game Fest.
Details are extremely light so far, so much so that it's unclear exactly what type of game Star Trek: Infinite will be. A brief teaser trailer shows a Federation fleet headed for a showdown with one of Star Trek's most well-known villains, the Borg, before zooming out to reveal a galaxy map divided into four quadrants.
From the faction icons shown in the trailer, it looks like players will be able to choose between the Federation, Cardassian Union, Klingon, and Romulan empires. The Borg seem to be missing on the map, seeming to imply they may simply be an obstacle for players to overcome rather than a playable faction all their own.
Paradox Interactive teases that the game will bring the «captivating fantasy of the Star Trek universe into an experience never before had,» according to the trailer's official YouTube description. Given the types of games Paradox Interactive is known for publishing, Star Trek: Infinite may be a strategy or 4X game. What platforms Star Trek: Infinite will come to is still a mystery as well, although it seems like PC will be a safe bet if the title is indeed a 4X strategy game.
Thankfully, fans won't have to wait long to learn more official details. A full reveal for Star Trek: Infinite will come on June 16, aka Picard Day.
