Abilities in are unlocked at different shrines throughout the game world. Some areas are blocked off until Stella has gained a certain ability, and someabilities are unavailable until players have properly upgraded Stella's ship. While there is the best order to get abilities in, it's likely players will unlock the majority of them through simple exploration.

One of the best indie games of 2020, is a game where players take Stella's ship on an adventure while also doing some management on the side. At each shrine in Stella visits, 2 Obols are required as an offering. Some shrines are accessible before the player has acquired the needed Obols, which are obtained each time a new spirit boards Stella's ship.
