Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, the next installment in Firaxis’ long running 4X strategy series, was shown running on the Nintendo Switch, one of the game’s launch platforms, in Nintendo’s latest Direct earlier this week and we learned a bit more about the game in the process.
The new trailer arrived shortly after Firaxis made a big splash on Gamescom’s Opening Night Live earlier this month where we saw the debut ofCiv 7 gameplay in both a new trailer and a 20 minute deep dive, as well as the announcement of Gwendoline Christie, best known as Game of Thrones’ Brienne of Tarth, as the narrator of this latest installment.
What was interesting about watching Civ 7 running on the Nintendo Switch is how much detail Firaxis was able to preserve in the overall presentation, even though the visual fidelity has been clearly downscaled in order to adapt to the Switch’s practically ancient hardware.
Fans were also treated to the reveal of a new civ, Meiji Japan, the first confirmed Modern Era civ to be featured in the game, as well as Himiko, one of Japan’s playable leaders.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII will launch on PC and consoles on February 11, 2025.
