Blizzard has announced that players can expect to increase ranks for Ultimate Skills in Diablo 4 Season 6 and Vessel of Hatred! This will increase the damage of those Skills and reduce their cooldown.
Diablo 4 Patch 2.0 PTR Notes
Even with the massive amount of changes announced in Patch 2.0, this does come as a surprise. The number of affixes has been reduced over the past few Seasons, so this is a slightly unexpected tweak in terms of Skills. Instead of huge pools of affixes that somewhat mirror each other, we're now seeing insanely high ranks for Basic and Core Skills as well as certain Passives in both meta and non-meta builds. This is not necessarily a bad thing, considering that it's led to some crazy experiences with player power in the Infernal Hordes activity, for example.
However, it begs the question of whether or not builds will need to have Ultimate Skills now in order to perform in higher difficulty tiers. Pulling the thread a little more, will we end up using Ultimate Skills now as often as Core or Basic Skills, thereby potentially losing what makes them Ultimate?
It's all speculation at this point, but what do you think? Is this a change you're going to welcome with arms wide open, or are you worried about skill bloat? Is there a world in our not-so-distant future where the Stormslide Build uses Petrify even more than it already does? Let us know in the comments below!
