Anyone who owns a QHD monitor will be very happy to hear Sony has finally decided to support 1440p displays on the PS5.
As the PlayStation.Blog reports(Opens in a new window), the latest system software beta release for the console includes 1440p HDMI video output. If the game you are playing supports 1440p then it will output natively at that resolution. However, the new resolution support will also help if you are playing at 4K as anti-aliasing can be improved through supersampling down to 1440p.
As DigitalFoundry confirmed in a tweet(Opens in a new window), 1440p support extends to 60Hz and 120Hz in either SDR or HDR, but Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is not supported in this beta release.
The other key feature this system software release introduces is "gamelists." They are basically folders into which you can organize your games. Sony allows you to have up to 15 gamelist folders and it's possible to store up to 100 games in each one. That should be more than enough to split your games up by genre, for example.
To create a gamelist, navigate to the "Your Collection" tab and select "Create Gamelist." Decide on a name and pick the games you want to include taken from any listed under Your Collection. So that includes physical, digital, and streamed games.
Other features of note as part of this beta release include the ability to request a share screen from a party member, joinable game notifications, new friend profile viewing, the ability to send stickers and voice messages to your groups, the option to compare 3D and stereo audio on the same screen, and easier access to in-progress activities when you resume a game.
