My fellow Sonic fans sure do love to fight. Whether it’s over which game is the best, Classic Sonic or Modern Sonic, or whether Sonadow is the best ship of all time, there’s always something. This week, instead of fighting amongst themselves, the Sonic community is fighting a kite.
Specifically, a 17 metre long kite shapes like an octopus, complete with legs billowing in the wind like a Lovecraftian nightmare. It’s big, it’s pretty, it’s a little creepy, and the Sonic fandom is ready to take it on.

The octopus kites have been floating around for years. However, user Rainmaker1973 recently shared a video of the kites on Twitter by Erich Chew on YouTube, and attracted the attention of the Sonic community in the process.
Of course, an octopus flying through the sky looks a lot like the Squid enemy and the Wyvern boss from Sonic Frontiers. As just one of many huge monsters in Frontiers, they fly around the map, leaving trails for Sonic to chase behind on and eventually take out. Most enemies in Frontiers have a similar aesthetic to the kite, being primarily black and red, with lots of tendrils and a generally uncanny style of movement.
As soon as Sonic Twitter picked up on this kite, the memes have been endless. Some have photoshopped Super Sonic into screenshots of the video, while others simply all-caps scream lyrics to the main boss theme of the game, Undefeatable. Some other users poked fun at the sheer volume of Sonic fans making the same jokes, such as MemoriesOfEnvy joking that “we Sonic fans only share one braincell, but it’s like the coolest braincell ever”.
