Sapphire has introduced its first AM5 socket motherboard, the Nitro+ B650I WIFI Ultra Platinum which features a Mini-ITX design.
The Sapphire Nitro+ B650I WIFI Ultra Platinum is the successor to the B550I variant of the same motherboard. The product comes in the Mini-ITX form factor which means that it's compatible with both big and small PC chassis. The motherboard is also the first AMD AM5 socket motherboard from the vendor.
Starting with the specifications, the AM5 socket on the Sapphire Nitro+ B650I WIFI Ultra Platinum is powered by an 8+2 Phase (70A Powerstage) VRM which is controlled by a XDPE 192C3B PWM IC. The power delivery is housed under a heatsink. The motherboard features two DDR5 DIMM slots which support up to 64 GB capacities at speeds of 6000+ MT/s (OC). Power is provided through a single 8-pin connector and the standard 24-pin ATX connector.
The motherboard supports all AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs & Ryzen 8000G APUs. Given that AMD's next-gen Ryzen "Zen 5" CPUs are fast approaching launch, we can expect new BIOS updates for the motherboard in the next few months.
Expansion slots on the Sapphire Nitro+ B650I WIFI Ultra Platinum motherboard include a single PCIe 4.0 x16 slot & a single M.2 Gen4 (x4) SSD slot. The motherboard is based on the B650 PCH which offers 36 PCIe lanes but no Gen5 lanes. The M.2 slot is covered by a Nitro+ heatsink which looks great and compliments the overall design and feel of this motherboard. There are also four SATA III ports.
I/O on the motherboard includes 1x HDMI, 1x DP, two USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.2 Gen2 (10 Gbps) ports, a single USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C (20 Gbps) port, 1x Clear CMOS switch, 1 LAN port (1 GbE), two USB 3.2 Gen2 x2 ports (5 Gbps), a WIFI 6 antenna and a 7.1 channel audio jack. There are also RGB
