Assassin's Creed Red, the next game in Ubisoft's popular series, is starting to sound like it's a lot closer to Assassin's Creed Valhalla — at least in terms of structure — than people might realise. This is according to an exclusive report from Insider Gaming, which suggests that the upcoming title is very much built upon the foundations of Valhalla and its core systems.
Combat, for example, is reportedly «somewhat similar», except there's «a lot more gore». An interesting point, given that Valhalla's combat is already quite gory, featuring the removal of limbs and heads when performing finisher attacks. With that in mind, we're left wondering just how bloody Red will be.
What's more, the settlement system that was introduced in Valhalla will make a return in Red. Apparently, it's «a major evolution» of what came before, letting players construct and customise a location known as «the Hideout».
Valhalla's settlement building is somewhat limited; you can choose to plop different buildings down in set locations and decorate the surrounding area with various objects, but progression is mostly linear. It sounds like Red will allow for a lot more freedom.
However, despite these immediate similarities, it's also said that Red will utilise «a substantial evolution» of the Anvil game engine that Valhalla is based on. Supposedly, this means we're getting a dramatic overhaul with regards to «animations, parkour mechanics, dynamic weather, and more». This should mean that Red won't come across as a reskin, for lack of a better word.
A full Assassin's Creed Red reveal is expected to happen relatively soon — perhaps during a Ubisoft showcase in the summer. But until then, let us know about your hopes and dreams for the project in the comments section below.
