The Resident Evil 2 remake has just become more faithful to the original PlayStation version thanks to a new mod that's now available for download.
The RE2R Classic mod, which can be downloaded from Nexus Mods, is a fixed camera REFramework mod that allows the game to be played from a fixed camera perspective, just like the first few entries in the series. The mod also employs an auto-aim feature to help in combat, a bend camera to enemy feature that makes the current fixed camera bend to face the targeted enemy, laser sights, some visual changes, and even a camera editor to let users create their camera angles.
While the game employs a different camera system, there's no denying that the Resident Evil 2 remake is extremely faithful, perhaps a little too faithful, as highlighted by Nathan in his review. Still, a game worth playing for any fan of the series and survival horror games.
Resident Evil 2 is a polished, respectful remake of a survival horror classic that probably would have benefitted from a slightly more daring approach. Hints of a braver revamp are sprinkled throughout, but it doesn’t take the risks necessary to join the canon of truly great video game remakes. Make no mistake though, if you loved the original, you’ll likely love the remake, and new players who can tolerate a few old-school quirks ought to have a gruesome good time as well.
The Resident Evil 2 remake is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One worldwide.
