Evil Empire finally unveiled its next project at the Triple-i Initiative showcase – a rogue-like Prince of Persia title, as indicated by recent rumors. It enters early access next month for PC, but some new gameplay footage and impressions are available courtesy of Game Informer. After speaking to the developer about the premise, it confirmed that The Rogue Prince of Persia’s lore is separate from the main series.
There aren’t any connections to previous entries or even the recent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The story follows The Prince, who has a necklace that lets him essentially “restart” from previous points, turning him into a reckless individual (one that’s acrobatic but still). He’s on a mission to save his kingdom from the invading Huns.
However, it seems the invasion is due to The Prince’s goading. Some “dark shamanic magic” has corrupted them, so there’s likely a higher purpose to the same, but players will need to mow through hordes of enemies to find out.
The Rogue Prince of Persia launches on May 14th via Steam Early Access. Like Dead Cells, it will receive updates to add new areas, weapons, bosses, levels and more throughout its early access period.
