The Elder Scrolls Online is celebrating its 10th anniversary and getting ready for the new Gold Road Chapter. The team just released a deep dive video on Scribing, the new feature coming in Gold Road that will let you customize your skills and play in new ways.
The video was originally part of the10th anniversary event in Amsterdam, but it's now available for convenient watching all on its own right here. Project Lead Kira Ross Schlitt walks us through Scribing, which is one of the features that will change how you can play ESO.
What is scribing? It is a system that the team intends to expand on roleplay and choices, Giving you ways to customize your skills. There are 11 skills, known as grimoires, you can customize in three different ways. Those three options are Focus scripts, which changes the abilities' main functions, Signature script, add some unique effects, and an Affix script, which adds a buff or debuff.
In order to unlock those 11 grimoires, you'll have to own the Gold Road Chapter. You’ll find Scribing quest givers near the Mages guilds when the content launches in June. Grab the questline and then work to complete it. The video shows off the process, Going through which grimoires you have unlocked and choosing which scripts you have access to and what they do. for an example, Soul Burst, has a Pull Focus Script to use.
Choices do have effects, as what script you choose might alter the type of resource a skill uses, its range, its cost, and other qualities. Focus scripts will change the most, while others, like Signature scripts offer flexibility in how you want to play your chosen class and skills. You could even sync them, in an example of choosing a healing Focus script and then choosing a signature script that boosts healing.
Picking some Focus scripts will lock you out of some signature scripts on that one character, since you can’t use them
