Plans for a PS4 iteration of long-in-development cosmic horror FPS Quantum Error have been cancelled, with developer TeamKill citing qualitative issues in a statement that approaches humblebrag. In 2020, we wondered if this spooky shooter might be a PS5 launch title, and in the years since, it's been moulded into a tense-looking experience, and a technically-demanding one, at that. To soften the blow, we got a fresh look at gameplay, which you can check out below. TeamKill explains:
“Unfortunately, we are going to have to cancel the PlayStation 4 version of Quantum Error. Even with the game being made from the beginning for the PlayStation 5, we still had hopes we could make a PlayStation 4 version happen, but with the level of quality we have achieved with Quantum Error with gameplay running at 60 frames per second, we have reached the conclusion that there is no way for us to deliver a version on PlayStation 4 that would live up to what the PlayStation 5 is going to deliver.”
The studio continued, stating: “A PlayStation 4 version would require too much downgrading and changing of assets, lighting, and much more to function, and with the difference in memory and the slower HDD speed, it would be a very different experience that will not compare to the PlayStation 5 version and would not be fair to PlayStation 4 players.”
Quantum Error takes place inside the Monad Quantum Research facility, which, after an unknown entity attacks it, necessitates a total containment lockdown. A team of firefighters is sent in to save as many lives from the blazing inferno as possible before things take a turn towards the cosmic and the horrible.
