ChinaJoy 2024 was flooded with Soulslikes, but many are utilising dark fantasy settings. Project Jinyiwei’s historical backdrop looks a lot more grounded, but it will ultimately be compared to the likes of Rise of the Ronin. That said, there’s really not much unique for us to introduce from this stage demo captured by Gematsu. It appears to have the tried and trusted gameplay blueprint of locking on to a single opponent, parrying their attacks, and utilising openings to strike. There are some traversal and stealth elements, but we’re effectively seeing a slightly more grounded alternative to a FromSoftware game.

It looks alright but I can never really tell until I try games like this myself

Too many soulslikes, but a less arcady Sekiro?
I'm all for it!

We're finally getting samurai games, so I appreciate them, but we need better ones. We need the sort of grounded samurai game that'd release on PS3. Games now are so floaty and arcady. It's like you're controlling a tall 3yo with the weight of a 3yo
I feel like I’ve seen this same game about 12 times already.
I prefer it over survival game, rogue like, hero shooter, looter shooter, asymmetric MP, battle royale, heart wrench indie,… wait a moment… I guess gaming generally is way too oversaturated at this
