Level-5, the developer responsible for a variety of games including the upcoming Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, has announced an event it will hold next month. The announcement comes as good news for anyone who might have felt badly about Level-5's diminished output in more recent years.
Level-5's output dates back to Dark Cloud, an action-RPG published on PlayStation 2 by Sony in 2000. Level-5 followed up that game with a sequel, then joined Enix in development of Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King before returning to its own projects. In 2007, it released Professor Layton and the Curious Village, a puzzle/adventure game that started a franchise that continues to this day. Its output increased dramatically from that point on, with games in multiple franchises arriving in the West to a generally favorable response. Level-5 also tried its hand at publishing in North America, but met with limited success and eventually retreated from the region. This month, Level-5 staged a comeback at the Nintendo Direct that has been a long time coming.
