The video game corner of the internet is currently ablaze as a Nintendo Direct and the debut trailer for the Borderlands movie happened within two hours of each other. Oh, and there was the minor matter of the first trailer of Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC sandwiched neatly between them. The trailer finally revealed when The Lands Between will be expanded upon as well as pre-order details for those continuing their journey or who plan to play Elden Ring for the first time this year.
A large chunk of the trailer was occupied by an entirely new character being introduced to the game via the expansion, Messmer the Impaler. In keeping with most of the other villains you battle in Elden Ring, Messmer appears to be quite a formidable foe. Setting the land ablaze according to the first tidbit of information on the new villain, Messmer is shown brushing Tarnished aside as if they're nothing, perhaps indicating he will be the toughest obstacle yet.
Again, like so many Elden Ring villains before him, FromSoftware is anticipating players will fall in love with Messmer. Not only is he the character selected for the statue treatment in Shadow of the Erdtree's Collector's Edition, but you can also buy, and maybe even wear, a real version of The Impaler's helmet. Yes, that does mean you will have to wait a few weeks after the release of Shadow of the Erdtree's release to own your very own Messmer helmet.
