From the trailers and footage of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet released so far, a fan favorite trope from the older games once again appears to have been omitted. The Old Chateau in Pokémon Platinum was a prime example of a recurring feature in classic Pokémon games: the haunted mansion. This has not appeared in the more modern releases, but the upcoming games would be perfect for this feature to return.
Mysterious haunted mansions provide memorable segments of gameplay that are also great spots to find Ghost-type Pokémon. The Old Chateau in Pokémon Platinum, the Strange House in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, and the classic Pokémon Tower of Lavender Town in Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow are all unforgettable examples of haunted houses in the series. These areas tempt the player to piece together the sparse lore and use their imagination to create histories for these areas.

While the Old Chateau is not an overly complex area, it provides a flavor that is striking and different to the rest of the game. This adds to the breadth of variety in Pokémon Platinum, making the game world more interesting as a result. The new games have added some of the most beautiful routes in any Pokémon game, such as Galar's Glimwood Tangle, but they have failed to embrace the creepier side of the Pokémon world. From what has been shown of the new games, this could be a problem in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Pokémon Platinum's Old Chateau is one of the most interesting areas in Sinnoh. Tucked away in Eterna Forest and only accessible using the HM Cut, the mansion is totally skippable and does not provide any progression to the game's story.
