Ghost of Tsushima has sold nearly 10 million copies in the two years since its July 17, 2020 release, according to developer Sucker Punch Productions.
The game’s two-year anniversary was this weekend and to celebrate the Sony-owned studio released an infographic showing how far the open world samurai game has come.
Across both its original release and the PlayStation 5 Director’s Cut that launched in August 2021, Tsushima has now sold a combined 9.73 million copies. The game sold 5 million copies in four months back in 2020 and became the fastest selling first-party PlayStation 4 original in history.
Critics praised Tsushima for its combat, particularly the standoff mechanic that lets players challenge enemies and carve through them in rapid succession. Nearly a billion players have enacted standoffs and 540.8 million players have participated in the one-on-one duels found in story and side missions.
Sony is currently developing a film based on the first game that will be directed by John Wick’s Chad Stahelski. A video game sequel is also rumored to be in development.
In recent months, Sucker Punch has started hiring for its next project, which the company has confirmed won't be the next instalment in the Sly Cooper or Infamous franchises.
