A Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leaker allegedly confirmed that Game Freak is not going to be bringing back Mega Evolutions in Generation Nine. Following the launch of Pokémon Legends: Arceus in January, players around the world were surprised when Gen 9 Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was announced to be released at the end of 2022. A new leak in July now claims to have revealed major details about the upcoming RPGs, including Gen 9 supposedly skipping out on Mega Evolutions.
Despite making its debut in 2013's Pokémon X and Y, the Mega Evolution mechanic is still one of the series' most popular features. The mechanic is so beloved, that it was even brought back in 2018's Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, and added to Pokémon GO in 2020. Fans desperate to see its return in a mainline Pokémon title held out hope that it could return in Gen 9. A Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leaker seems to have dashed those dreams, though, after they supposedly revealed several of the game's features.
