PlayStation 5 Pro Has No Reason to Happen, as Base Model’s Power Is Not Fully Utilized yet, Developers Say
The PlayStation 5 Pro has no reason for happening, as some developers feel they still have to make the most of the base model.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz's Christopher Dring in a recent podcast, PlayStation 5 users will upgrade to the new system, but some developers told him during GDC 2024 that they don't feel they need it, as they have to make the most out of the base model. Additionally, some companies feel the mid-gen refresh isn't going to grow the market significantly, as it feels like the current generation has yet to start, rendering the need for a mid-generation refresh null. These are definitely interesting statements, considering how many PS5 games struggle to hit 60 frames per second in Performance Mode with decent visual quality.

While the PlayStation 5 Pro won't offer a bigger jump in CPU performance, likely to allow easier backward compatibility with the PlayStation 6, the mid-generation system is rumored to offer a significant uplift in rendering and ray tracing performance. Additionally, the console will support PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, a brand-new upscaler that will eventually support 8K resolution.
