MTG's Fallout Crossover Is The "Best Performing" Commander Set Ever
thegamer.comFallout fever is sweeping the globe at the moment, as the TV show has convinced everyone to pick up the series again. Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 are benefiting from massive influxes of new and returning players, and it now seems like Magic: The Gathering is also feeling the love too, with the recently released Fallout Universe Beyond decks projected to be the "best performing" Commander set ever released.
This is according to Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks (thanks Wargamer), who brought up sales of the Fallout Commander decks in a recent earnings call, despite them having only been on sale for a month and a half. The fact that Cocks has brought up the set's performance at all, having been on the market for so little time, suggests a great showing that will likely only improve as word of the show keeps spreading and more popular give it a watch.
This isn't even taking into account the Fallout Secret Lairs that were dropped at the start of the month, as part of Magic: The Gathering's Equinox 2024 Superdrop. With those on top of the Fallout Commander decks, coupled with the impressive performance of the Lords of the Rings set from last year, it's easy to see why Hasbro is keen to release more Universes Beyond.
Speaking of which, Cocks also goes into some details about future Universe Beyond sets and their projected sales in the earnings call, and is expecting a big 2025 for Magic. Marvel and Final Fantasy have Universes Beyond sets in the pipeline for next year, and Cocks expects them to be "in the same league" as at least Lord of the Rings.
In particular, Cocks believes that the release of the Final Fantasy set in Japan will "probably dwarf" what Lord of the Rings did due to the former property being far more popular in that particular territory, so some pretty high expectations have been placed upon these sets.
