Overwatch 2 developers will feel like they just can't catch a break. Every time something is fixed or balanced, something else becomes an issue. Perhaps this comes with an IP as big as Overwatch, or perhaps the game was launched way sooner than it should have been, but one thing's for certain, news around the game has primarily been about how broken it is. One of the major complaints about the game was regarding the matchmaking – specifically, getting matched with players who are literally way out of their league.
Only yesterday, Blizzard published a blog post to highlight that Overwatch 2 is the most balanced it's been since launch, and that the matchmaking system has been improved. Game director Aaron Keller did address the matchmaking issues, but many players still find that they're either waiting in long queues or facing opponents who are way more skilled. However, the major gripe is with the fact that these changes only reduce the matchmaking pool from 12 divisions apart to nine.

"Prior to Season 3, the worst 5% of Grand Master level matches would have players 7 divisions apart, the equivalent of Gold 3 to Silver 5," said the blog post. "When we initially shipped 2.3 this leaped to 12 divisions apart or greater. We have made numerous changes since then, and are making changes almost daily, and this has now been reduced to 9 divisions."
However, many felt like this wasn't enough. The prospect of battling players nine divisions higher still seems too much for a number of players, who vented their frustration on r/Overwatch.
