Soon after the Resident Evil 4 remake's demo dropped last week, players discovered there was a hidden difficulty called "Mad Chainsaw Mode" that would come up randomly on the menu screen. If accepted, the demo became incredibly hard thanks to a ton of new enemies. If declined, the demo plays out as it normally would, offering a challenging but beatable scenario for Leon that sets up the rest of the remake.
Players thought that Mad Chainsaw Mode was completely random, but it turns out we were wrong. A code was discovered over the weekend that, when input correctly, will always get Mad Chainsaw Mode to activate every single time. The codes are slightly different depending on the platform, but they're all input from the main menu with "Main Game" highlighted. On PlayStation, hold down both L1 and R1, and then press Up, Left, Down, Right, Square, Triangle, Circle, X, and then X again to confirm input. For Xbox, hold down LB and RB, then Up, Left, Down, Right, X, Y, B, A and A. You should hear a bang if you've done it right.
Things are a little more complicated on Steam because the buttons you have to press are normally associated with the Steam Overlay, so you'll need to disable that to get the code to work. For Mad Chainsaw Mode on Steam, hold Shift and Space, then type W, A, S, D, R, Tab, C, F, and F. Then release Space and Shift and then press F to confirm.
