Ever since the start of season 3, Overwatch 2 players have been complaining about the game's matchmaker going a little haywire. Players as high as the top 500 were being placed in gold-tier matches as the matchmaker seemed to ignore all previous seasons' results. This naturally resulted in some blowouts that left a bad taste in the mouths of those caught on the wrong end of Overwatch 2's wonky matchmaker.
Blizzard is at least listening to players on this important issue. Earlier this week, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller announced a matchmaker update had rolled out to bring a bit of fairness back to games.

"Earlier today we started rolling out fixes for an issue where players from a much lower skill tier would get pulled into higher skill games," Keller said on Tuesday. "For context we made several changes to matchmaking in S3. We'll cover these and their impact (generally, really positive) in the next blog update. A byproduct of these changes was pulling gold players into GM lobbies. That's what these fixes are targeted at."
However, it doesn’t seem like the update had the intended effect. Fans are still reporting games where platinum and diamond-ranked players are facing grandmaster and master players, while others are saying gold-tier players are having to contend with diamonds. Some players are accusing Blizzard of prioritizing queue time over finding a fair match, while others are complaining of long waits as the matchmaker tries to find a fair game.
