Ori creator and Moon Studios co-founder Thomas Mahler has said that it will be hard to make Ori 3.
Earlier this week we reported on an interview with the founders of Moon Studios about why they chose to develop No Rest for the Wicked instead of a new Ori game. Interestingly, co-founder and game director Thomas Mahler revealed to actually have some ideas for a new Ori, and a title.
Following this interview, Mahler has now taken to X to express his thoughts about sequels to games, and why those sequels often end up being worse than their predecessors. Interestingly, the Ori creator also mentioned Ori 3, saying that it would be very hard for Moon Studios to create a new game in the series. Needless to say, it would be even harder for an external developer to create a new installment. " I remember playing Diablo 3 at launch and it just didn't capture that magic that Diablo 2 had", Mahler writes on X.
He continued, "From my own personal experience, I know how difficult it was for us to build Ori and the Will of the Wisps and improve upon Ori and the Blind Forest, even though we all went into development thinking that it should be pretty straight-forward to make a game that's just better given that we had just shipped Blind Forest and knew about plenty of things we still wanted to improve upon:
We had to spend another 4 years and re-think everything in order to achieve that. And even with that, there are still people that prefer Blind Forest over Wisps. I personally think Wisps is the better title of the two, but ultimately it's up to people to decide!"
Mahler then said he wouldn't envy a team that would have to develop a third Ori.
"That's why I wouldn't envy a dev team that'd have to make a third Ori game. It'd be hard for us - It'd be incredibly hard for anyone else."
Will we ever get Ori 3? We guess only time will tell at this point, but it's good to know that Mahler already has some
