Moon Studios delivered two excellent Metroidvanias with its Ori games, and though its next project, No Rest for the Wicked, is heading in an entirely different direction, it’s also looked increasingly promising. The action RPG has, of course, launched in early access on Steam, giving players the chance to dive in and see how the experience is shaping up, and as detailed by Moon Studios co-founder Gennadiy Korol, it’s already got plenty of meat on the bone.
In a recent tweet, when asked about how long a playthrough of No Rest for the Wicked’s early access version will be, Korol said that though mileage will vary from player to player thanks to the level of systemic depth and “dense” level design, on average, a first playthrough is likely to last around 15-25 hours.
Beyond that, with endgame content, you can play the game “for much longer.” Korol says there’s also plenty of reasons to dive back in for repeated playthroughs, given the amount of variation on offer in the weapons, rune specials, move sets, and more.
“It really depends on how you play, since there are so many meta systems, dense level design to explore, ‘alive’ system for enemy respawn and all other replayability systems,” Korol wrote. “For the first time playthrough for all areas including the Crucible we’re seeing 15-25 hours.
“Those that further engage with end game, challenges, bounties and the town meta systems can enjoy the same realm for much longer.
“And of course we hope folks will also start new realms and characters to try different weapons and builds since our soft class system is shipping with 100 weapons with their unique move sets, rune specials system and all of the other character customization allowing for so much variety and different play styles.”
Over the course of No Rest for the Wicked’s early access period, Moon Studios also intends to add multiplayer, farming, new bosses and map regions, additional story content, and more.
